NICK SINGLETON
Penn State - Junior - 6’0 227lbs
Pros
Ideal frame for the position. Rocked up body with thick trunk and powerful legs
Freaky long speed considering his size
Reaches top speed in a few powerful strides
One cut and go monster who can bring punishment to any defender trying to fill lanes
Despite bigger size can drop hips lower when zig zagging through interior traffic and stay composed
High steps, twists and fights through arm tackles with aggression
Willing outlet receiver in the flats that produces big gains
Cons
Can ease up too much when changing direction in open space letting defenders close
Consistency has been his biggest question mark — Huge flashes as a Freshman and then reduced to more of an average runner in Sophomore season, with bounce-back attempt happening now
Traps a lot of passes to his body with alligator arms, and needs to be more comfortable using his hands outside his body
Not a nifty route-tree running style back
Summary
Singleton looks like the lead back that an Offensive Coordinator would design in a studio. His only thing now is to finish strong, reach his full potential and bring it to the NFL. He has created his own floor and ceiling to this point, and the floor is pretty average but the ceiling is what I’m buying in to. He could be a steady top running back in the NFL and fan favorite the way he gashes defenses. With Singleton you buy in to the power/speed combo and versatility and give him room to establish himself and feel comfortable.
